Volunteering- How you can help

The work we do at Russell House would not be possible without the dedicated team of volunteers that we have. If you are interested in volunteering, or have any questions about the program, please ask to speak with our Volunteer Coordinator at 573-364-0579.

 Below are some tasks that our volunteer assist with:

  • Shelter Relief: Relieves staff and performs all shelter duties. Provide support, information, and referral to those in need of assistance.
  • Child care provider: Perform childcare during support groups, educational groups, and during individual and group therapy sessions.
  • Transportation: Provide transportation for women staying in shelter and their children. All transports take place within the agency guidelines governing safety of client and of volunteer.
  • Clerical: Help with large mailings and other clerical jobs.
  • On-call volunteer: Provide transportation to women coming to shelter from a designated pick-up point to shelter.
  • Community education: Assist with displays, health fairs, job fairs, etc. aimed at increasing the communities’ awareness and education on the dynamics of domestic violence and sexual assault.
  • Maintenance volunteer: Assist with upkeep of shelter and grounds.
  • Donations volunteer: Assist with picking up large donations and helping women move from Russell House.



Confidentiality – It is absolutely essential that all information obtained from people needing our services be held in the strictest confidence. We require that all information gained through services as a Russell House volunteer will be treated confidentially, including the location of the shelter.

Training – All volunteers will be required to participate in the training established by the Russell House as necessary for the particular job they have chosen. Attendance at all sessions is required.
